Our team here at Upstate Auto Service & Body Works shares a goal to help Saranac Lake, NY car owners make the most of their vehicles. With four-wheel drive, you get improved capability when the driving conditions get challenging. Read further to learn when and how to use 4-Low and 4-High when you're in four-wheel drive.

4-High is the high-range four-wheel drive setting. This setting enables you to drive at higher speeds while torque is being sent to the wheels to optimize grip. 4H is more commonly used than 4L, and many drivers choose to use this setting on rocky, muddy, or snowy roads. Typically, you can drive at speeds up to 55 mph in this setting.

4L is designed to handle challenging conditions. With this setting, a significant amount of torque is being sent to the wheels, so it's suggested to go no faster than 10 mph when you're in this setting. Many drivers use 4L for rock climbing and powering through deep sand, water, or mud.
